"True love begins with the act of going home to ourselves and our body. We need to learn to handle our body with compassion, in the way we eat, in the way we work. Keeping our compassion alive and releasing tension in our body brings us deep peace and wellbeing." --THICH NHAT HAHN

About Maitri Works

Maitri works philosophy

WELCOME!

Maitri (Pronounced my-tree) is a Sanskrit term that means unlimited friendliness toward ourselves, with the clear implication that this leads naturally to unlimited friendliness toward others.

Maitri also has the meaning of trusting oneself—trusting that we have what it takes to know ourselves thoroughly and completely without feeling hopeless, without turning against ourselves because of what we see.

The philosophy at Maitri Works™ is that of self-compassion that leads to the radical self-care necessary to live the vibrant, energetic, joy-filled lives we were all meant to lead.

Our goal at Maitri Works™ is to guide you and your family to an optimal state of health and well-being through the Maitri concept, nutrition, movement, gratitude and connection. Come…learn, grow into yourself, with us!

The SPECIES model

There are many good models on which to base a health and wellbeing program but none fits our philosophy at Maitri Works quite like this one! We know your lives are busy – filled to overflowing! This model, with a ring to represent each category of your life demonstrates how they all work together, each more than the sum of its parts:

  • Spiritual:

    - inner peace
    - meaning and purpose
    - values
    - connectedness
  • Physical:

    - fitness
    - play
    - good nutrition
    - sleep
    - safety
    - stress management
  • Emotional:

    - awareness of self
    - acceptance of feelings
    - empathy
  • Career:

    - satisfaction of work
    - potential for growth
    - ethics
    - volunteerism
  • Intellectual:

    - knowledge
    - creativity
    - mental challenges
    - stimulating activities
  • Environmental:

    - conservation
    - interdependence in nature
  • Social:

    - healthy relationships
    - positive interactions
    - connections to others
    - commitment to community

We like to think of each ring, or category, as having the capacity to change in diameter given the amount of time and energy you prioritize for it. From day-to-day or week-to-week, this model could start to resemble a psychedelic kaleidoscope, which is also how life feels at times! At Maitri Works, we will help you make sense of the psychedelic kaleidoscope by facilitating work on your priorities – what you find most important – in this one life you’ve been gifted.

Wendy Pecoraro
MSN, APRN, FNP
Founder
Chief Visionary Officer
Family Nurse Practitioner
Wellness & Health Promotion Certified

Wendy Pecoraro has been a nurse practitioner for over 20 years. Most of her experience is in the Emergency Department and Cardiology where she’s seen firsthand the debilitating effects of poor lifestyle choices. She’s been heard to say, “My whole career I’ve been putting out fires. I’m ready to start helping people not start on fire in the first place.”

Through a lifetime of struggle with weight, then illness and injury, and an aversion to taking medication when she knew there was a better way, Wendy developed an interest in Integrative Medicine. Integrative Medicine is medical practice or treatments that focus on optimal functioning of the body and its organs, that includes comprehensive treatment of the individual: focused on lifestyle optimization but integrating western medicine and some tenets of eastern medicine.

Wendy has attended conferences at the Institute of Lifestyle Medicine, The Functional Medicine University and the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, as well as attending Methodist College for a post-master’s certificate in Wellness and Health Promotion. She is currently pursuing admission in the Fellowship Program at the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine.

A few years ago, Wendy proposed and implemented a Wellness Program for a major company in Omaha with great success. Maitri Works was born out of this endeavor to share what I’ve learned and what we’ve subsequently learned, as a family, to help all of you navigate your health journeys.

Wendy makes her home in Gretna, NE with her husband, daughter, dog & cat. Her three grown children live nearby which makes it easy for her to dote on her granddaughter. In her spare time, between work and chauffeuring her daughter, she loves to garden, cook, bake, read, walk, learn about people and spend time with those she loves the most.
